Privacy Policy
Fresh Air ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how it is stored, and your rights regarding that information. It applies to the Fresh Air mobile app and the sign up form on this website.
Information We Collect
- Account information: your email address, your name, and authentication data from Apple or Google if you use one of those sign in options.
- Photos: the images you capture inside the app to log your time outside.
- Location data: your approximate location, used to calculate weather, UV, and air quality for your area, and, if you choose, an approximate location attached to a logged photo for the in app map.
- Mood and activity logs: mood entries, streak data, and outdoor timer sessions you record in the app.
- Device push token: an anonymous identifier from Apple that lets us deliver the notifications you have turned on.
- Time zone: your device time zone, used only to schedule notifications at a sensible local hour.
- Usage data: basic, non identifying information about how the app is used, to help us fix problems and improve the product.
- Website sign up: if you request early access on this website, we collect the name, email address, and phone number you submit.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide the core features: calculating your best outdoor window, tracking your streak, and storing your photos, mood logs, and timer sessions.
- To send the notifications you have opted into, such as window reminders, the evening check in, and challenge nudges.
- To operate the Friends and Challenges features you choose to use.
- To verify that a captured photo genuinely shows the sky or outdoors, and to generate a short mood summary sentence.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the app.
We do not use your information for advertising or ad targeting.
We Do Not Sell Your Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing or advertising. We have not sold or shared personal information in the preceding twelve months.
Friends and Challenges
If you use the Friends or Challenges features, other signed in Fresh Air users can see your display name, invite code, current streak, number of skies logged this year, and the date you last logged a sky. This is visible to any signed in user who looks it up, for example by redeeming your invite code, not only people you have already connected with. If you join a challenge and turn on photo sharing for that challenge, the other participants can see the skies you log during that challenge's date range. Photo sharing is off by default and you can turn it off at any time. Your mood entries and precise location are never shared with other users. You can report a display name, challenge title, or shared photo from within the app, and blocking someone removes any existing friendship and prevents either of you from reconnecting or joining each other's challenges. We have a zero tolerance policy for objectionable content or abusive behavior. Violators are banned immediately.
Third-Party Services
We use the following service providers to operate Fresh Air. They process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms:
- Supabase: account authentication, database, and photo storage.
- Expo: over the air app updates and push notification delivery.
- Open-Meteo: weather, UV, and air quality data. Only the location coordinates needed for the request are sent, with no account information.
- Anthropic: to verify that a captured photo shows the sky or outdoors, and to generate a short mood summary sentence. Photos and mood scores are sent for this purpose and are not used by Anthropic to train models.
- Apple and Google: only if you choose to sign in with one of those accounts.
Data Storage and International Transfers
Your data is stored on servers located in the United States. If you access Fresh Air from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection rules than your country.
Data Retention and Deletion
You can delete your account and its data at any time from Settings, Account, Delete Account. When you do, your photos, logs, and account information are removed from our active systems immediately. Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on our standard backup rotation, within 30 days. We may retain a minimal record of a deletion request where required to comply with law.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain uses of it. You can delete your account and data yourself from Settings at any time. For any other request, contact us at dailyfreshair@gmail.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have the rights described above under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to delete it. As stated above, we do not sell or share your personal information.
Children's Privacy
Fresh Air is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and row level security on our database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The Effective Date at the top shows when this version took effect.
